Local History

Wow. Local history.

Sounds exciting, right? Well, local history IS exciting.

What an honor to serve with the volunteers at the Rutherford County Historical Society!

So many of us share how we love history; European history, African studies, Civil War history. But how many of us want to know more about OUR local history?

Local history involves preserving the stories our grandparents shared when we were kids. Local History involves preserving photographs and mementos of our past. Local history involves digging into the past lives of our ancestors to learn from their successes and mistakes.

An few examples for local history in Rutherford County (Tennessee): How many of know of Monkey Woman Bridge? The community once known as ‘Cemetery’? Oh, HERE’S a good one – Thankful Taylor and the ‘Bosom Serpent’

Folks, what I am saying is local history is something in which YOU can make a difference!
